What is creatine? Do I need it?

One of the most common questions we’ve been asked is about creatine and whether or not it’s necessary to be able to perform well at IBX Fitness. Well, keep reading..

Many don’t know what it is so here’s a quick explanation: creatine is a natural compound made in your body (liver, kidneys, and pancreas) and is also found in food (red meat/seafood) It primarily stores energy in muscles and the brain.

What creatine is NOT: a protein powder, a magical substance that is going to give gains, or something to rely on as an energy source.

What many people don’t realize is just how much of this you can do without it. You can build a significant amount of muscle naturally since this is something your body produces. Similarly to how we talked about last month, supplements are JUST supplementary and nutrition is going to be key no matter what phase of fitness you’re in.

Enhancers such as creatine can be useful, but not essential. Besides exceptional nutrition, the main drivers for muscle growth are consistent resistance training focusing on progressive overload, protein intake, a caloric surplus, and proper rest and recovery. And guess what? These are all things we encourage, support, and coach at IBX. Those who have been members with us can attest to it, and if you haven’t had the chance to see for yourself, just book a call and let us know how we can support you and we’d be happy to have you come in and try a class.
