Managing (and maintaining) a Holiday Workout Routine

How to Keep Your Workout Routine Going During the Holidays
Between family gatherings, travel plans, school events, and a calendar that somehow keeps filling up, the holidays can make your usual workout routine feel a little harder to manage. It’s easy to start thinking, “I’ll just get back to it in January.”
At IBX Fitness, we train for life—and that includes the busy seasons. You can make room for movement while enjoying the traditions, meals, and people you love. Here are five ways to keep showing up for yourself during the holidays:
1. Make a Plan That Fits Your Actual Schedule
Start by looking at the week ahead. Which days can you realistically make it to class? Book those workouts and put them on your calendar alongside your other commitments.
If you usually work out four times a week but can manage two during a busy stretch, give those two sessions a place in your schedule. A manageable plan gives you something concrete to follow, and you can adjust it as your availability changes.
Try choosing a backup class time, too. If holiday errands take over your evening, you’ll already know when your next opportunity is.
2. Have a Backup for Days You Can’t Get to Class
Traveling or hosting family? Keep a few simple movement options in your back pocket. Take a walk with a relative, spend ten minutes doing familiar bodyweight exercises, or take a stretch break after a long drive.
Give that backup a specific time: a walk after breakfast or a few minutes of movement before getting ready for dinner. Keeping it simple makes it easier to follow through.
These smaller moments can help keep movement part of your day until you’re back in your regular class routine.
3. Let Your Community Help You Show Up
Getting out the door can be the hardest part, especially when it’s dark outside and the couch looks extra comfortable. Having someone expecting you makes that decision a little easier.
Coordinate a class with your favorite workout buddy or check in with another member about when they’re coming in. You get a workout and a chance to connect during a season when schedules can pull everyone in different directions.
At IBX, our coaches are here to help, too. Let us know how you’re feeling so we can help you adjust your workout for the day.
4. Keep Holiday Meals and Workouts Free of Guilt
You don’t have to earn your holiday dinner with an extra-hard workout. Enjoying a favorite dessert doesn’t create a debt you need to pay back in class.
Keep your focus on what you’re building through training: strength, confidence, and the ability to do more of the things you enjoy. Give yourself time to eat regular meals, drink water, and rest alongside your workouts.
There’s room for your fitness goals and your family’s favorite recipes at the same table.
5. Make Your Next Workout the Priority
Missed a class? Had a busy week? Choose your next workout and move forward. You can return to your routine without doubling up or waiting for Monday, a new month, or January 1.
Consistency includes learning how to come back when plans change. During the holidays, that might mean adjusting your class days, easing into your first session after travel, or asking a coach for help finding your rhythm again.
We’re here to support you through all of it. Take a look at your week, book your next IBX class, and give yourself that time to move. If you’re just starting out, book a call with one of our coaches to help you get ahead of the New Year crowds.

Let’s keep training for life, one class at a time.
