Good Vibes, Great Workouts: 5 Group Fitness Etiquette Rules
Group fitness is about more than getting a great workout—it’s about sharing a space where everyone can feel comfortable, focused, and supported. At IBX Fitness, a little consideration goes a long way toward keeping classes safe, welcoming, and fun. Whether you’re a beginner or have been training with us for years, here are five simple etiquette rules every great member should follow.
1. Arrive Ready to Work
Give yourself enough time to check in, put away your belongings, and get settled before class begins. Arriving on time helps you catch important instructions and complete the warm-up, which prepares your body for the workout ahead. If you’re new to IBX, arrive early so your coach can introduce you to the equipment, movements, and class flow without either of you feeling rushed.
2. Practice Good Gym Hygiene
We’re all going to sweat—that’s part of the fun—but basic hygiene makes a big difference in a shared workout space. Wear clean workout clothes, use deodorant, cover any open cuts, and wipe down your equipment when you’re finished. If you’re feeling sick or may be contagious, give your body time to rest and join us when you’re feeling better. Your fellow IBX-ers will appreciate it!
3. Give Others Room to Move
Be aware of the people training around you, especially during exercises that require more space. Keep personal belongings out of workout areas, return equipment to its proper place, and avoid walking through someone else’s station while they’re moving.
4. Let the Coach, Coach!
Your coach is there to keep the class safe, organized, and effective. Listen during demonstrations, ask questions when you need clarification, and let your coach know if you need a modification. Take the ear buds/airpods out! We are here to keep you safe and can’t do that if you can’t hear us!
5. Wait Until Class Is Over to Pack Up
We know schedules can be busy, but packing up while others are still working or stretching can be distracting and make the class feel like it’s ending early. Whenever possible, stay through the full cool-down and wait until your coach officially finishes class before gathering your belongings or putting away equipment. Those final minutes are part of the workout, too, and finishing together helps preserve the supportive group energy that makes IBX special.
Great gym etiquette doesn’t require perfection—just awareness, respect, and a willingness to contribute to the community. When everyone does their part, the entire class gets a safer more enjoyable workout.
